CITY MANAGER ISSUES PROCLAMATION OF THE EXISTENCE OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY
The City of King City Manager Steve Adams issued a Proclamation of the Existence of a Local Emergency today, January 5th at 3:00 p.m. in response to the ongoing storm event. This followed State of Emergency declarations issued by the Governor and County Office of Emergency Services on January 4th. The Council will be requested to ratify the Proclamation at their regularly scheduled meeting on January 10th.
City staff are closely monitoring the water levels of the San Lorenzo Creek and Salinas River. Due to the projection of additional storms over the weekend and into next week, staff believes the potential exists for the San Lorenzo Creek to breech the top of the bank. Public Works staff have made arrangements for water pumps to be available if necessary to address any flooding that could occur in flood prone areas, particularly Villa Drive. Additional Public Works Department staffing will be on call over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Police Department staff will be patrolling sensitive areas to identify any potential damage and the status of water levels, as well as monitoring weather service reports and information.
The Police Department and other City staff have also been involved in activities and coordinating with other agencies to ensure homeless individuals and families are sheltered and safe from the effects of the storms. The King City Library has been opened by the County of Monterey as an evacuation center during daytime hours.
Sand bags and sand continue to be available at the King City Fire Station for any residents who need them for storm response preparation for their private property.
The purpose of the Proclamation is to ensure the City is eligible for reimbursement of the costs associated with these disaster preparation and response activities.

EL ADMINISTRADOR DE LA CIUDAD EMITE UNA PROCLAMACIÓN DE LA EXISTENCIA DE UNA EMERGENCIA LOCAL
El Administrador de La Ciudad de King City, Steve Adams, emitió una Proclamación de la existencia de una emergencia local hoy, 5 de enero a las 3:00 p.m. en respuesta al evento de tormenta en curso. Esto siguió a las declaraciones de estado de emergencia emitidas por el gobernador y la Oficina de Servicios de Emergencia del Condado el 4 de enero. Se solicitará al Consejo que ratifique la Proclamación en su reunión programada regularmente el 10de enero.
El personal de la ciudad está monitoreando de cerca los niveles de agua del Arroyo de San Lorenzo y el Río de Salinas.
