King City has established a number of economic development goals through its Economic Development Element of its General Plan. The City partners with a number of agencies to provide assistance, particularly in support of small business owners, which includes the King City Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture and the Monterey County Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Programs include free consultation for business planning, special workshops, and assistance in locating potential business sites. In addition, King City offers a Downtown Façade Enhancement Grant Program and a Downtown Outdoor Dining Grant Program.
