On February 25, 2020, the City of King City Council adopted an Ordinance to allow cannabis storefront retail dispensaries, which became effective on March 26th. A copy of the Ordinance is attached. A maximum of two permits will be issued at one time.
The proposed process for selecting those eligible for the limited number of permits included in the Ordinance is designed to be objective and impartial, while also limiting consideration to high quality proposals and experienced operators. Under the proposed process, applicants will be required to participate in a pre-application process. An independent third party, HdL Companies, has been selected through a request for proposal (RFP) process to evaluate the proposals and score them on a scale of 600 points. Those receiving at least 500 points will be included in a lottery. The lottery will determine the ranking of all the eligible proposals. The top two selected will then be eligible to apply for their conditional use permit (CUP), cannabis business permit and other approvals required before being allowed to operate.
The pre-application package materials are attached, which include the following:
- Cannabis Retail Storefront Pre-Application Process Instructions
- Commercial Cannabis Business Retail Storefront Application Form
- Commercial Cannabis City Permit Indemnification Agreement
A copy of the Cannabis Retail Storefront Dispensary Scoring Checklist that will be used by the independent third party evaluator is also attached for your reference.
The deadline for submitting applications is July 9, 2020. Please direct any questions to Scott Bruce at www.kingcity.com.
