Lake San Antonio
In normal weather conditions, Lake San Antonio has 5,000 surface acres of water and summer water temperatures up to 70 degrees, making it an ideal water skiing lake. Formed by the damming of the San Antonio River, Lake San Antonio is divided geographically into South Shore and North Shore.
South Shore is the most developed area of the lake with 700 campsites. North Shore offers 400 campsites, a resort store and access to miles of shoreline camping.
Lake San Antonio has an abundance of bass, striped bass, catfish and sunfish. Striped bass fishing has become especially popular in the last few years. The "striper" is a saltwater fish that has been transplanted to the lake where it has thrived. Fish weighing more than 20 pounds are not uncommon, although most striped bass caught at the lake run between 13-15 pounds. Another popular activity at the lake is the annual eagle count. The lake area is an important wintering ground for Bald and Golden eagles as well as Osprey. The first Saturday of January, the parks department conducts an eagle count with the help of volunteers. The parks department also provides eagle watching tours and has an eagle watch boat to conduct sightings.
