Anyone interested in being a volunteer coach or official should call 385-6748.Youth Basketball is offered in January, with registrations taking place in December. The King City High School girls’ basketball team has coached the City’s Recreation Department girls teams for the past 10 years. Thanks to Coach Kline, the KCHS Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach, for getting his players involved. The High School Team volunteers gain experience working with other youth and earn community service hours in the process. The players learn ball handling skills, proper shooting techniques, passing and teamwork.
Girls Fastpitch softball is offered in the Spring. Registration takes place in February with games played March through May. The Recreation Department offers two divisions, 7-10 year olds and 11-14 year olds. The 7-10 year old program teaches players the basic fundamentals of softball using a “soft” softball using coaches and players as pitchers to help develop proper hitting techniques and build confidence. All players play in all games and learn hitting, throwing, catching skills and the techniques of base running.
The 11-14 year old division is played under the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) rules and games are played on a regulation size field and officiated by ASA certified umpires. Players practice fundamentals, build on already developed skills, and learn strategies of the game. Volunteer coaches are needed.
