King City School Services
The King City Joint Union High School District (comprised of the King City Union High School and the Los Padres Continuation School), and the King City Elementary District (including the San Lorenzo Middle School, Del Rey Elementary School and Santa Lucia Elementary School) are the two main school districts located within King City with a new middle school that is scheduled to open in 2007. There are also several elementary schools located outside of the King City Elementary School District.

For the school year of 1997-98, student population estimates reported that 1,815 students were enrolled at King City High School, 582 students were enrolled at the San Lorenzo Middle School, 956 students were enrolled at the Del Rey Elementary School and 908 students were enrolled at the Santa Lucia Elementary School.

Other educational services available within the city and outlying areas include the south campus of Hartnell Community College and the Monterey County Gabilan School. There are also numerous local pre-schools and child development centers located within King City and in outlying areas.

King City Union Elementary District
Total enrollment for the King City Union Elementary School District for the 1997/98 school year was 2,364 students. Within the District there are approximately 100 full-time teachers with 22.20 students per teacher and an average class size of 28.4 students.

King City Joint Union High School
SAT scores for the 1997/98-school year representing King City Joint Union High School were comparable with Monterey County averages. Verbal scores for King City Joint High School averaged 426 and math scores averaged 440. In addition, the high school drop out rate was 1.6 percent lower than the county average.

For the 1997/98 school year, total enrollment at King City Joint Union High School District was 1,930. There were approximately 65 full-time teachers and an average class size of 28.8 students.
