The City will start construction this month on a project to widen First Street from the Highway 101 offramp to the First Street Bridge. The project will add bike lanes, a shoulder, landscaping, a left-turn lane at Lonoak Road, and resurfacing of First Street and a portion of Lonoak Road. The goal of the project is to enhance the entrance to the City and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project is funded from a $1.3 million grant received by the City. It is being coordinated with expansion of sewer and water lines to a portion of the area. Construction will take approximately three months.
